In plain language

The bill requires rental vehicle coverage in insurance policies to include a comparable vehicle during loss of use.

This bill amends the Illinois Insurance Code to ensure that if a car is inoperable, insurance policies covering rental reimbursement must provide a comparable rental vehicle. This applies to all claims where rental coverage has been elected, regardless of how the car became inoperable.

What this means for you
  • Consumers: Consumers with auto insurance will benefit from guaranteed access to a comparable vehicle when theirs is unavailable.

Summary

Amends the Illinois Insurance Code. Provides that a policy of automobile insurance that provides coverage for rental vehicle reimbursement or loss of use shall include coverage that guarantees the insured is provided with a comparable vehicle during the period of loss of use. Provides that this requirement applies to all applicable claims if the insured has elected coverage for rental vehicle reimbursement or loss of use, regardless of whether the loss of use is due to maintenance or is the result of an at-fault motor vehicle crash.
