Existing law requires the board of trustees of each school district to establish a course or unit of a course of instruction concerning the human immunodeficiencylishimmunodeficiency a virus, the human reproductive system, related communicable diseases and sexual responsibility which must be taught by a teacher or school nurse whose qualifications have been approved by the board of trustees.
(NRS 389.036) - *AB357**AB357_R1* – 2 – Section 2 of this bill revises these requirements by requiring the board of trustees of a school district to establish a course or unit of a course of instruction in evidence-based, factual instruction in sexuality education.
Section 3.5 of this bill makes an appropriation to the Department of Education for costs related to the development and implementation of standards of content and performance for the course in sexuality education established in section 2.

and - *AB357* – 3 – (b) The number of pupils who did not participate in the course or unit of a course of instruction based on the choice of the parent or guardian of the pupil.

Upon receipt of the written [consent] refusal of the parent or guardian, the - *AB357_R1* – 6 – pupil [may attend the course.
If the written consent of the parent or guardian is not received, the pupil] must be excused from [such - *AB357* – 6 – attendance] attending the course or unit of a course or the specific lesson for which authorization was refused, as applicable, without any penalty as to credits or academic standing.
- *AB357**AB357_R1* – 7 – (4) Social studies, which includes only the subjects of history, geography, economics, civics, financial literacy and multicultural education;
(1) Methods to maintain the security of personal identifying information and financial information, including, without limitation, identifying unsolicited electronic communication which is sent for - *AB357**AB357_R1* – 8 – the purpose of obtaining such personal and financial information for an unlawful purpose;

There is hereby appropriated from the State General Fund to the Department of Education the sum of $115,609 for personnel, travel, contractor and other costs related to the development and implementation of standards of content and performance for the course in sexuality education established pursuant to NRS 389.636, as amended by section 2 of this act.

Any remaining balance of the appropriation made by subsection 1 must not be committed for expenditure after June 30, 2024, by the entity to which the appropriation is made or any entity to which money from the appropriation is granted or otherwise transferred in any manner, and any portion of the appropriated money remaining must not be spent for any purpose after September 20, 2024, by either the entity to which the money was appropriated or the entity to which the money was subsequently granted or transferred, and must be reverted to the State General Fund on or before September 20, 2024.
