Plain-language change summary

The updated version of House Bill 1697 changes the deadline for the state board of health to reestablish the newborn screening panel from January 1, 2027, to July 1, 2026. This earlier timeline means that newborns may receive necessary screenings sooner, potentially improving early diagnosis and treatment of certain health conditions. Additionally, the bill now requires the state board to consider public requests for adding conditions to the screening panel, ensuring that community input is part of the decision-making process. These changes aim to make the screening process more efficient and responsive to new health information.
