The updated version of Senate Bill 5749 has clarified its provisions by removing a section that originally required an expiration date for the act. Additionally, it specifies that the legislative audit committee will evaluate the effectiveness of housing development opportunity zones by September 1, 2043, with a plan to potentially repeal these zones if affordable housing units do not increase. These changes matter because they streamline the bill and establish a clear review timeline, which can help ensure that housing initiatives are properly assessed for their impact on affordable housing availability.
