The key changes in Bill SB 235 involve adjustments to the governor's salary structure. Starting July 1, 2026, the governor's salary will be set to match that of the chief justice of the Supreme Court, rather than being determined by the Legislature each year. Additionally, the previous provisions regarding the attorney general's salary have been removed, which previously set it at a percentage of the governor's salary. This matters because it streamlines the process for setting compensation for these high-ranking officials and ties the governor's salary to a fixed benchmark, potentially ensuring greater stability and fairness in government salaries.
