Plain-language change summary

The updated version of Bill HB 443 introduces a new provision for appointing a temporary representative to fill a vacancy in the Legislature during a general session until a special election can be held. Previously, the bill only outlined how and when to conduct special elections to fill such vacancies but lacked a method for temporary appointments. This change matters because it ensures that the legislative body can remain functional and responsive, even when unexpected vacancies occur, helping to maintain representation for the constituents affected.
