The recent amendments to Bill SB 210 remove the requirement for local health departments to inspect electronic cigarette retailers, aiming to streamline regulations. The bill also updates the fees set by the State Tax Commission on tobacco and nicotine products, with a portion of these fees earmarked for disposing of confiscated electronic cigarettes and enhancing enforcement efforts. Additionally, the penalties for businesses that sell unregistered electronic cigarette products are being toughened. These changes matter because they could lead to stricter oversight of nicotine product sales while reducing the inspection burden on small retailers.
