What changed in the latest version

The latest version of SB 208 includes changes that adjust how courts handle attorney fees in property assessment appeals. Now, if a property owner or taxpayer loses their appeal, the court must award fees to the winning party in certain cases, whereas previously it had the option to do so. Additionally, if the appeal results in at least a 20% reduction in property assessment, the court is required to award attorney fees to the successful appellant. These changes are important because they may encourage more property owners to contest unfair assessments, knowing that they have better chances of recovering legal costs.
