The recent amendments to HB 1706 focus on enhancing student mental health awareness by requiring the Department of Education to develop and share guidelines on mental health issues. The bill now explicitly includes the Department of Human Services in these efforts, ensuring a more comprehensive approach. Additionally, schools are now required to notify students and their families about available mental health services not just within the school but also in the broader community. These changes are important because they aim to better educate and support students regarding mental health, ultimately fostering a healthier school environment.
