Plain-language change summary

The amendments to Bill HB 4151 increase the penalties for individuals who initiate a false report that leads to a significant law enforcement response, especially when it causes serious injury or death. Initially classified as a Class A misdemeanor, the crime can now be elevated to a Class C felony under these circumstances, carrying a potential punishment of up to five years in prison and a fine of $125,000. This change matters because it aims to deter false reporting, which can waste emergency resources and endanger lives.
