Plain-language change summary

The revised version of Bill HB 1430 has made significant changes to how "conversion therapy" is defined and addressed. Specifically, the bill now explicitly states that any attempts to change an individual's sexual orientation or gender identity through practices like medication or therapy are considered unethical. Additionally, while licensed therapists can counsel those questioning their identity, they must ensure that the treatment respects the individual's self-determination and be transparent about the nature of the treatment. These changes are important because they emphasize the ethical responsibility of mental health professionals to support individuals in their identity rather than attempt to change it.
