The recent amendments to House Bill 1031 clarify that school nutrition services must be provided in accordance with federal guidelines and that local boards of education must participate in specific federal programs for school lunches. Additionally, the State Board of Education has the authority to set rules for these services that don't contradict existing federal standards. This is important because it ensures that school nutrition programs align with best practices and that students have access to vital meal programs, supporting their health and educational success.
