The recent changes to Senate Bill 259 include adding funding for a virtual psychology training program at Appalachian State University in Hickory, North Carolina, which aims to improve student safety, mental health, and overall well-being in schools without a full-time psychologist. Additionally, the amendments clarify licensing requirements for school psychologists, ensuring that applicants must meet specific educational and exam criteria. These updates are important because they provide essential support for mental health services in schools and set clear standards for the professionals who will provide those services.
