The changes made in HB 1118 increase the threshold for town funds that must be remitted to the treasurer from $500 to $3,500 and also raise the deposit requirement for the treasurer from $1,500 to $3,500. This means that town officials can now wait longer before needing to submit larger amounts of money, which could provide more flexibility in managing town finances. However, it also raises the stakes for timely fund management, as the failure to deposit money as required could lead to the removal of the treasurer from their position. This could enhance accountability but may also complicate the financial processes for towns if not managed carefully.
