Plain-language change summary

The revised version of HB 1013 includes a new requirement for the commissioner of the department of agriculture, markets, and food to create best practices for pig-catching contests. This addition aims to ensure the well-being of the animals involved by consulting with farmers and veterinarians before publishing guidelines meant to be ready for the 2027 fair season. This matters because it introduces structured guidelines that could improve safety and welfare for both the pigs and the participants in these events.
