The final version of Bill SB 540 includes a new definition for "plug-in solar generation systems" and sets clear parameters for their use, allowing individuals to install one system with a maximum output of 1,200 watts without requiring additional utility approvals or fees. It also mandates that these systems must be certified for safety and comply with state building codes, ensuring a standard for safe installation and operation. Additionally, it establishes that electric utilities are not responsible for any damages caused by these customer-installed systems. These changes are important as they make it easier for residents to adopt solar technology and contribute to renewable energy efforts.
