"Limited x-ray machine operations." The performance of radiography limited to chest, extremities, spine, skull and 20260SB1334PN181120260SB1334PN1725 - 2 - sinuses or bone densitometry procedures using equipment that emits external ionizing radiation resulting in radiographic images or bone density measurements.
20260SB1334PN181120260SB1334PN1725 - 3 - (1) Diagnostic medical sonography.
"Radiologist." A physician who is licensed in this Commonwealth and is certified by the American Board of Radiology, the American Osteopathic Board of Radiology, the Royal College of Radiology or the Royal College of Physicians 20260SB1334PN181120260SB1334PN1725 - 4 - and Surgeons of Canada as a radiologist.
* * * (f) Qualifications.--An applicant shall be licensed to practice perfusion under this act if the applicant meets all of 20260SB1334PN181120260SB1334PN1725 - 5 - the following qualifications and has otherwise complied with the provisions of this act:
In assessing the moral character of an applicant with a criminal conviction, the board shall conduct an individualized assessment in 20260SB1334PN181120260SB1334PN1725 - 6 - accordance with 63 Pa.C.S.
20260SB1334PN181120260SB1334PN1725 - 7 - (6) Passes an applicable modality or specialization examination administered by a medical imaging certification organization approved by the board.
(e) Radiation therapist scope of practice.--A radiation therapist may use ionizing radiation to deliver radiation therapy treatments and perform treatment simulation using a medical imaging modality and shall execute treatment plan procedures and dosimetric calculations as prescribed by a 20260SB1334PN181120260SB1334PN1725 - 8 - licensed physician.
(iii) Diagnostic and therapeutic aspirations and 20260SB1334PN181120260SB1334PN1725 - 9 - localizations.
(4) The clinical protocols under paragraph (3) shall take effect upon submission to the board by a supervising radiologist, a radiologist assistant or a delegate of the 20260SB1334PN181120260SB1334PN1725 - 10 - supervising radiologist and the radiologist assistant.
(4) Holds a current license or certification as a medical imaging professional, radiation therapist or radiologist assistant issued by a medical imaging 20260SB1334PN181120260SB1334PN1725 - 11 - certification organization approved by the board.
(i) The board shall promulgate temporary regulations for the purpose of temporary licensure under this subsection, which shall expire no later than two years 20260SB1334PN181120260SB1334PN1725 - 12 - following the publication of the temporary regulations.
(2) A physician assistant licensed under this act or the <-- act of October 5, 1978 (P.L.1109, No.261), known as the Osteopathic Medical Practice Act, or a certified registered nurse practitioner licensed under the act of May 22, 1951 (P.L.317, No.69), known as The Professional Nursing Law, who:
(i) performs fluoroscopy and has completed training 20260SB1334PN181120260SB1334PN1725 - 13 - acceptable to the board;
(2) A PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT CURRENTLY LICENSED UNDER <-- SECTIONS 13 AND 36 OF THIS ACT OR SECTION 10 OF THE ACT OF OCTOBER 5, 1978 (P.L.1109, NO.261), KNOWN AS THE OSTEOPATHIC MEDICAL PRACTICE ACT, OR A CERTIFIED REGISTERED NURSE PRACTITIONER OR CERTIFIED REGISTERED NURSE ANESTHETIST PRACTICING PURSUANT TO SECTIONS 8.2 OR 8.9 OF THE ACT OF MAY 22, 1951 (P.L.317, NO.69), KNOWN AS THE PROFESSIONAL NURSING LAW.
(5) Auxiliary personnel under the supervision of a doctor of podiatric medicine who is permitted to perform x- 20260SB1334PN1811 - 14 - rays under section 21.2 of the act of March 2, 1956 (1955 P.L.1206, No.375), known as the Podiatry Practice Act.
20260SB1334PN1725 - 14 - (i) Fetal presentation or heartbeat.
20260SB1334PN1811 - 15 - (9) An individual employed by the Federal Government to provide medical imaging or radiation therapy services while discharging the individual's official duties.
(l) Authorizations and restrictions.-- (1) A licensee under this section may use radioactive 20260SB1334PN1725 - 15 - substances or equipment emitting ionizing radiation, high- frequency sound waves or magnetic resonance and perform medical imaging and radiation therapy procedures on a human body for diagnostic purposes or for the purpose of providing guidance during medical interventions only:
20260SB1334PN1811 - 16 - (2) Proof of continuing education as determined by the board by regulation.
(n) Professional liability.-- (1) A licensee under this section practicing in this Commonwealth shall maintain a level of professional liability 20260SB1334PN1725 - 16 - insurance coverage in the minimum amount of $1,000,000 per occurrence or claims made.
Upon issuance of the license, the licensee has 30 days to submit to the board the certificate of insurance or a copy of 20260SB1334PN1811 - 17 - the policy declaration page.
* * * (b) Qualifications.--The board shall not issue a license or certificate to an applicant unless the applicant establishes with evidence, verified by an affidavit or affirmation of the 20260SB1334PN1725 - 17 - applicant, that the applicant is of legal age, is of good moral character and is not addicted to the intemperate use of alcohol or the habitual use of narcotics or other habit-forming drugs and that the applicant has completed the educational requirements prescribed by the board and otherwise satisfies the qualifications for the license or certificate contained in or authorized by this act.
(a) Supervision.--On and after January 1, 1988, no auxiliary 20260SB1334PN1811 - 18 - personnel shall perform radiologic procedures on the premises of a medical doctor unless such person is under the direct supervision of a medical doctor and unless such person has passed an examination approved by the board and administered in accordance with section 812.1 of the act of April 9, 1929 (P.L.177, No.175), known as The Administrative Code of 1929, provided that no such auxiliary personnel shall perform radiologic procedures for therapeutic purposes unless the 20260SB1334PN1725 - 18 - medical doctor under whose direct supervision such auxiliary personnel is acting is on the premises at the time the radiologic procedures are performed.
(d) Education and testing.--No auxiliary personnel who has or obtains a license, certificate or registration issued by, or on behalf of, a board within the Bureau of Professional and Occupational Affairs or a comparable board of another state, or who has obtained certification as the result of satisfactory completion of a test and an educational course accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the board, shall be required to undergo any additional education or testing pursuant to this section if radiologic procedures were included in the education 20260SB1334PN1811 - 19 - or the examination which he or she was required to complete successfully in order to be eligible for such license, certificate, registration or certification.
(1) The General Assembly declares that the repeal under 20260SB1334PN1725 - 19 - paragraph (2) is necessary to effectuate the addition of section 13.7 of the act.
