    SEC. 404P. RESEARCH WITH RESPECT TO MENOPAUSE AND MID-LIFE WOMEN'S HEALTH. (a) Research and Innovation.-- (1) In general.--The Director of NIH, acting through the Director of the Office of Research on Women's Health, shall coordinate and expand research activities conducted by all institutes, centers, and offices of the National Institutes of Health to develop and implement Federal research programs with respect to-- (A) the impact of the symptoms and trajectories of changes across perimenopause, the menopausal transition, and the postmenopausal period on women's physical, oral, mental, behavioral, and cognitive health; (B) the prevention of related adverse health outcomes among women during the menopausal transition and the postmenopausal period; (C) the known health disparities that are observed with the menopausal transition, including between rural women and urban or suburban women; and (D) the development of integrated, collaborative approaches to menopause care, which may involve non-pharmacological and pharmacological treatments.

    This addition establishes a dedicated section for menopause research under the NIH, focusing on various aspects of women's health during mid-life.

    SEC. 310C. RESEARCH RELATING TO MID-LIFE WOMEN'S HEALTH. (a) Public Health Research.--The Secretary shall expand research activities with respect to the severity and duration of perimenopausal, menopausal, and postmenopausal symptoms and related chronic conditions affecting mid-life health outcomes among women, including mental and behavioral health outcomes. In carrying out activities under this section, the Secretary shall coordinate with existing programs and activities of the Department of Health and Human Services.
