Provides relative to requirements for posting suicide prevention hotline informationonschoolwebsitesandstudentIDcardsandauthorizessuchinformation to be included in student handbooks.
Present law requires each secondary school to post a national suicide prevention hotline number, 988, and a local suicide prevention hotline number, if available, on its website.
Proposed law broadens the application of this requirement to both middle schools and high schools and additionally requires an explanation that 988 may be called or texted;
the inclusion of a state suicide prevention hotline number, if available;
and a link to Louisiana988.org, a suicide prevention initiative of the La.
Dept.
of Health.
Proposed law further authorizes such schools to include such information in student handbooks.
Present law requires each secondary school that issues ID cards to include 988 and a local hotlinenumber,ifavailable,onthebackofthecards.
Proposedlawbroadenstheapplication of this requirement to both middle schools and high schools and additionally requires an explanation that 988 may be called or texted and the inclusion of a state hotline number, if available.
Proposed law adds that each middle and high school that receives federal funds shall post signage in easily visible locations to inform students about the national suicide prevention hotline number, 988, and information about Louisiana988.org.
