1:13(B) and 24:177(E)] HB 590 Reengrossed 2026 Regular Session Glorioso Abstract:
Authorizes the Department of Public Safety and Corrections, office of motor vehicles, to create specially designed envelopes for improving traffic stop communication between law enforcement and those with certain disorders and disabilities.
PresentlawauthorizestheDept.ofPublicSafetyandCorrections(DPS&C),officeofmotor vehicles(OMV),toissueidentificationstickersordecalstosymbolizeawarenessforcertain disabilities, at no cost to the driver or parent or legal guardian.
Proposed law authorizes the DPS&C, OMV, to create specially designed envelopes to be provided to drivers with mental, physical, developmental disabilities, or autism spectrum disorder, or their parents or legal guardians, that provide proof as required by present law.
Specifies that the envelopes include guidelines to assist officers in recognizing and effectively communicating with drivers with disabilities during traffic stops.
