The updated bill now specifies that the legislative auditor will evaluate the process of developing legislative fiscal notes and must submit a report to the Legislature by February 1, 2027. This change emphasizes the importance of accurate fiscal notes in assessing the financial impact of proposed legislation. Additionally, it addresses the disparity in information-sharing requirements between state agencies and private entities, aiming to improve the reliability of data used for fiscal evaluations. This matters because better fiscal notes lead to more informed legislative decisions, which can have significant effects on state finances.
