Plain-language change summary

The amendments to Bill SB 3403 make important changes regarding disability pensions for firefighters. Specifically, it clarifies that a disabled firefighter is entitled to a disability pension based on either 65% of their salary or the retirement pension they would have received if they retired, which is beneficial for ensuring adequate financial support following a disability. Additionally, the new provisions explicitly allow for a child's disability benefit of $20 each month for unmarried children of the disabled firefighter, which aims to provide further assistance to families during challenging times. These changes support both the firefighters and their families, ensuring better financial security.
