The changes to Senate Bill No. 246 involve adding a specific timeline and requirements for the Commissioner of Energy and Environmental Protection to study natural gas rates for commercial and agricultural customers. The bill now mandates a report with recommendations by January 15, 2027, to address whether current demand charges unfairly affect these customers. This is important because it aims to ensure that the rates charged to these businesses accurately reflect their actual energy usage, potentially leading to fairer pricing in the future.
