The bill has been amended to clarify that a person eligible for a specific legal remedy must have completed their entire sentence at least five years prior to seeking that remedy, instead of just marking the date of their conviction. This change emphasizes that on top of not having new misdemeanor or felony offenses during that time, the individual needs to have served their sentence completely. Additionally, there is now a provision keeping the bill relevant only until September 30, 2028, after which it will be repealed. This matters because it establishes clearer criteria for individuals seeking to have their Class 1 misdemeanor judgments reconsidered, potentially impacting many people's legal situations and opportunities for rehabilitation.
