Plain-language change summary

The amended bill SB 1627 now allows operators of unmanned aircraft to fly as low as 200 feet above certain properties, as long as those properties are not zoned for residential use and meet specific conditions related to school activities and property owner notifications. This change increases the altitude limit from 100 feet to 200 feet, which could provide more flexibility for recreational drone operators while still maintaining some level of oversight regarding safety around schools. It matters because it aims to balance the enjoyment of recreational activities with the need to protect areas where children are present, ensuring that drone operation is done responsibly.
