Plain-language change summary

The amendment to SB 1503 changes the focus from creating new provisions related to pension benefit plans to establishing clearer definitions and protections for first responders who are killed in the line of duty. It explicitly includes members of the Arizona National Guard and law enforcement pilots as first responders. This change is significant as it broadens the scope of who qualifies for state death benefits, ensuring more individuals who risk their lives in service are recognized and supported.
