Plain-language change summary

The amended version of Bill SB 1570 has shifted significantly from focusing on prohibiting diversity, equity, and inclusion programs in state hiring and training to instead mandating federal immigration law enforcement presence at polling places for the 2026 election. This change means that local election officials will need to partner with federal immigration agencies to ensure their personnel are present during voting hours. This amendment is significant as it raises concerns about the potential impact on voter participation and the overall election environment.
