Plain-language change summary

In the latest version of SB 1509, the definition and requirements for obtaining informed consent for surgical procedures have been clarified. Specifically, now it states that consent must include the signatures of the healthcare provider performing the surgery, the patient or their surrogate decision-maker, and a witness if needed. Additionally, it allows for a verification process if the patient is unable to physically sign the consent. These changes aim to ensure that consent is thoroughly documented, enhancing patient safety and clarity in surgical procedures.
