What changed in the latest version
52 added · 82 removedPlain-language change summary
The amended version of SJR 137 designates June 10 of each year as “Christina Grimmie Day” in New Jersey, removing the specific year 2026 for the observance. The changes also condensed some details about Christina Grimmie's accomplishments, omitting references to her finishing in the top three on "The Voice," her appearances on television shows, and her receiving an American Music Award. This means the resolution now focuses on a yearly observance rather than a one-time event in 2026, and it has less detailed context about her career.

Christina Grimmie was a proud New Jersey native who grew up in Marlton, New Jersey and rose to national prominence as a talented singer and songwriter.
Christina first built a devoted following in the early days of YouTube by sharing her music online, eventually amassing hundreds of millions of views and a global fan base.
Christina’s accomplishments also included successfully releasing her first independent extended play, "Find Me," which debuted at number two on iTunes;
amassing almost 3.5 million YouTube subscribers;
finishing top three on season six of NBC's "The Voice”;
performing on multiple television shows including "The Ellen Show" and "Dancing with the Stars";

Tragically, Christina’s life was taken by a gunman following a concert in Orlando, Florida in June 2016. In the wake of this tragedy, Christina’s family established the Christina Grimmie foundation to support individuals and families facing similar unexpected hardships and crises, specifically families who have lost a loved one to gun violence.
Christina’s artistry, voice, and connection with her audience continue to resonate with fans around the world and her music and performances remain widely celebrated and continue to inspire new generations. June 2026 will mark the 10-year anniversary of Christina’s passing.
It is altogether fitting and proper to designate June 10, 2026 as “Christina Grimmie Day” to recognize Christina’s lasting cultural impact, honor her legacy as a New Jersey artist, and promote awareness of efforts to support victims of unexpected tragedies.
