The proposed amendments to SCR 4028 have made a significant change regarding term limits for state elected officials. The new version allows individuals to serve a maximum of four complete four-year terms in the legislative assembly, whereas the earlier version did not clearly specify this limit for assembly members. Additionally, the updated bill now states that prior service before the 2022 election will not count towards these term limits, which helps clarify when the limits apply. This matters because it sets clearer boundaries on how long individuals can hold public office, potentially fostering greater political diversity and accountability in North Dakota’s government.
