The amended bill defines a "support person" as someone selected by a patient to accompany them during dialysis treatment. It clarifies that this person does not have decision-making authority unless they are the patient's next of kin, guardian, or legally authorized representative. The bill also ensures that a patient's protected health information can only be shared with the support person if authorized by the patient or their legal representative. These changes aim to provide clarity on the role and limitations of support persons in dialysis centers.
