Plain-language change summary

The amendments to Bill HB 1558 introduce a provision allowing courts to order "parental loss restitution" when someone is convicted of criminal vehicular homicide and the victim was a parent or guardian of a minor child. This restitution would require the convicted individual to make monthly payments to the victim's children until they reach adulthood. This change is significant as it aims to provide financial support to children affected by such tragic incidents, recognizing the ongoing impact of losing a parent.
