The updated version of Bill SB 153 now allows judges to mandate pretrial supervision by the Board of Pardons and Paroles for all offenders charged with specific offenses, rather than just those charged with Class A or Class B violent offenses as originally proposed. This change broadens the scope of offenders who can be monitored before their trial, which could help enhance public safety by ensuring that individuals charged with various serious crimes are supervised while awaiting trial. The bill further requires the Board to establish rules for implementing this supervision, ensuring there are clear procedures in place.
