The amendment to Bill HB 130 expands the ban on classroom instruction related to gender identity and sexual orientation from just kindergarten through fifth grade to now include kindergarten through eighth grade. This change means that public K-12 schools in Alabama will not be allowed to discuss or teach these topics at any grade level within that range, which could significantly impact what educators can address in their classrooms. This matters because it reflects and shapes the educational environment regarding discussions of identity and diversity in schools.
