Plain-language change summary

The amended version of Bill AB 996 clarifies that the Department of Financial Institutions (DFI) will provide a $1,000 matching contribution to "Trump accounts" specifically for eligible children upon request. The section detailing the funding schedule has been removed, making the bill more streamlined by focusing purely on the matching contributions without listing specific budget amounts. This change is important as it directly supports families by encouraging contributions to savings accounts for children, which can help in financial planning for education or other expenses.
