Plain-language change summary

The legislative amendment to Bill AB 644 has made some key changes to the proposed aid for newly consolidated school districts. Originally, the aid for the first year of consolidation was set at $2,000 per pupil, but the amendment reduces that amount to $1,500. Additionally, it introduces a new structure for aid in the following years, specifying a payment of $650 per pupil in the school year after consolidation, instead of the previously proposed structure that phased down after the fifth year. This matters because it adjusts the financial support that schools will receive, which could affect their resources and planning after consolidation takes effect.
