The recent amendments to Bill AB 425 clarify the language surrounding the registration of trailers for transporting housing. Instead of simply referencing "manufactured housing units," the bill now includes "modular homes and manufactured homes" in its definitions. This change ensures that the registration applies clearly to both types of housing, aiming to support those involved in transporting different forms of portable homes. By broadening the scope, the bill helps to streamline the registration process for those in the housing transport industry.

registration of trailers used for transporting manufactured housing units.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau Under current law, a person may apply to the Department of Transportation for registration as a transporter of modular or other portable housing.
DOT may register an eligible applicant upon payment of the applicable fee and issue the applicant a registration plate valid during the calendar year in which it is issued.
The person to whom the plate is issued may use the plate on any trailer or temporary undercarriage they own, but only for transporting a modular housing unit or other portable building.
This bill expands this registration option to include the transport of manufactured housing units.
For further information see the state fiscal estimate, which will be printed as an appendix to this bill.
