The bill modifies grant provisions to include technical colleges for interactive critical mapping data and removes a reporting requirement for a previously established grant program.

  • 165.88 (3m) (d)

The department of justice shall submit an annual report to the cochairpersons of the joint committee on finance providing an account of the grants awarded under this subsection and the expenditures made with the grant moneys.

This change removes the requirement for the Department of Justice to report on grants awarded specifically under the subsection for interactive critical mapping data for schools.

  • 165.88 (4)

grants awarded under sub. (2) and the expenditures made with the grant moneys. → grants awarded under sub. subs. (2), (3m), and (3t) and the expenditures made with the grant moneys.

This change expands the reporting requirement to include grants awarded under the new subsection (3t) for technical colleges.

  • 165.88 (3t)

165.88 (3t) G RANTS TO TECHNICAL COLLEGES FOR INTERACTIVE CRITICAL MAPPING DATA. (a) In this subsection: 1. “District board” has the meaning given in s. 38.01 (6). 2. “Interactive critical mapping data” has the meaning given in sub. (3m) (ac). (b) The office of school safety shall award grants to district boards to be used to submit interactive critical mapping data of the district boards’ technical college buildings to each local law enforcement agency with jurisdiction and to the office of school safety. (c) The office of school safety shall accept applications for the grants under this subsection from the president of the technical college system board, who shall work jointly with the district boards and the local law enforcement agencies with jurisdiction to apply for the grants. (d) Grant moneys awarded under this subsection shall be used for site-specific interactive critical mapping data to enhance security and increase situational awareness for first responders. Any interactive critical mapping data created with grant money under this subsection shall be compatible with platforms and applications used by local, state, and federal public safety officials; may not require local, state, or federal public safety officials or district boards to purchase additional software; and shall include information that can best assist first responders in an emergency, such as building numbers, floors, suite designations, room numbers, or other available relevant location information.

This creates a new subsection that allows technical colleges to apply for grants to provide interactive critical mapping data to local law enforcement.
