(a) The United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (“HUD”) recently issued a report describing the results of an on-site assessment of the District of Columbia Housing Authority (“DCHA”).

The report identified a number of significant concerns with the current operations of DCHA and will serve as the foundation for the development and implementation of strategies and plans to improve DCHA’s provision of housing and services to low-income District residents.

(b) To successfully address the HUD findings and revitalize the operations of DCHA, it is critical to have a revamped board of directors of DCHA with expertise and experience that supports the necessary reforms and that can serve in a focused and agile capacity.

(c) It is also important that the new DCHA board work closely with the DCHA Executive Director to address the HUD findings and create a more sustainable path forward for DCHA to advance the mission of DCHA, which is to build and maintain safe, decent, affordable housing for District residents.
