Plain-language change summary

The updated version of HB 1171 has shifted the focus from the Board of Education needing to "approve and implement" alternative graduation pathways to simply "developing" them. This change means that while the Board will still create these pathways, they will not be responsible for rolling them out directly, allowing for more flexibility in how these pathways are introduced. The amendment also emphasizes consulting with community stakeholders and aligning these pathways with career skills that go beyond just standardized assessments, which could better support diverse learners, including English language learners. This matters because it potentially opens up more inclusive and practical options for students to graduate, helping to accommodate various educational needs and backgrounds.
