A BILL TO AMEND THE SOUTH CAROLINA CODE OF LAWS BY AMENDING SECTION 59-26-20, RELATING TO THE DUTIES OF THE STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION AND THE COMMISSION ON HIGHER EDUCATION, SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT THE STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION SHALL DEVELOP A SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM FOR CERTAIN RESIDENTS THAT INTEND ON BECOMING CERTIFIED TEACHERS EMPLOYED IN THE STATE IN AREAS OF CRITICAL NEED; BY AMENDING SECTION 59-149-10, RELATING TO LIFE SCHOLARSHIPS, SO AS TO PROVIDE FOR THE AMOUNT OF THE SCHOLARSHIP BASED ON THE STUDENT'S HOUSEHOLD INCOME; AND BY AMENDING SECTION 59-150-370, RELATING TO HOPE SCHOLARSHIPS, ELIGIBILITY, ADMINISTRATION, AND REPORTING REQUIREMENTS, SO AS TO INCREASE THE AMOUNT OF THE SCHOLARSHIP TO THREE THOUSAND DOLLARS AND TO PROVIDE THAT A STUDENT IS ELIGIBLE FOR THE HOPE SCHOLARSHIP IF HIS ANNUAL HOUSEHOLD INCOME IS LESS THAN SEVENTY-FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS.
