The recent amendments to SB 1097 clarify that certain residential private schools in Virginia, specifically those accredited by the Virginia Council for Private Education and located west of Sandy Ridge, are exempt from specific licensure requirements. This change emphasizes that these programs do not receive funding from the state and must still adhere to safety and supervisory standards set by their accrediting body. This matters because it simplifies regulatory requirements for these schools while maintaining oversight on safety standards, allowing them to operate more freely.
