The amendment to § 9.1-116.1 of the Code of Virginia clarifies the purpose of the Virginia Sexual and Domestic Violence Victim Fund by explicitly stating that the fund is to support the prosecution of certain crimes and victim services. It specifies that funds will be made available for local attorneys to further dedicate existing resources for prosecuting domestic violence and related offenses, as well as for law enforcement and civil legal assistance programs. Additionally, it emphasizes funding for salaries and equipment for sexual assault forensic examiners, prioritizing those serving rural or underserved areas. This change helps outline the specific areas of support and funding priorities for the victim fund.
