“Our family has been going to a cottage on Pelee Island since 1945. Most of the time we travel with Griffing Flying Service - a small, family owned airline business out of Sandusky. Because the island is difficult to reach (only ferry and flying) any significant increase in fees or anything that would cause Griffing to not be able to provide service to the islands would be a disaster. The ferry from Sandusky is extremely unreliable, and some years we have not had it at all. Which means the only way to reach and get off the island is through Griffing. Please consider continuing the exclusion ...”

“To whom it may concern, I am a pilot for a company that operates frequent routes between the Lake Erie Islands, including Pelee Island in Ontario. The proposed removal of the exemption that includes our operation would be detrimental to our island business. While these fees can be easily absorbed by large commercial carriers and corporate operators, the same is not true for our small aircraft. Dividing the fees between 3 passengers on a 4 seat aircraft will result in prohibitively expensive fares. These flights cover the same daily route to a similar ecosystem that poses little to no sanita...”

“I strongly believe that the long-standing exemption should remain in place. The risk of contamination from smaller aircraft is minimal, and imposing this fee would have a devastating impact on small air carriers. Smaller aircraft typically operate within localized regions that share similar environmental and ecological characteristics. Unlike larger, faster jet aircraft that cross continents and pose greater phytosanitary risks, our operations are confined to shorter distances. Additionally, we do not transport cargo, catering supplies, or international waste—only passengers and their perso...”

“Hello, My name is Hayden Maschmeier, I am a pilot flying for Griffing Flying Service. I'd like to start off by saying that I understand the need for agricultural control of what enters the country. I understand the importance of protecting what we have here in the US and not ruining that with any foreign species. However, I think our operation should continue to have some form of exemption from the proposed rule/exemption change that has been outlined here. Our operation is based in Port Clinton, OH at KPCW airport. We fly to the Lake Erie Islands, including our longest flight which is to P...”

“To whom it may concern: We are writing in regards to the Agriculture Quarantine Inspection program, and specifically to express my deep concerns with ending the long-standing exemption for small commercial aircraft. The end of this exemption will be a financial disaster for both Griffing Flying Service in Port Clinton, Ohio, and also for all of their customers who rely on them for transportation to Pelee Island, Ontario on Lake Erie. Griffing Flying Service has been owned and operated by the same family since 1937, transporting passengers and mail to the Lake Erie Islands, including Pelee I...”
