TITLE 675 FIRE PREVENTION AND BUILDING SAFETY COMMISSION Readopted Final Rule LSA Document #24-566 Readopts rules in anticipation of IC 4-22-2.6, providing that an administrative rule adopted under IC 4-22-2 expires January 1 of the fifth year after the year in which the rule takes effect unless the rule contains an earlier expiration date. Effective January 1, 2026. SUMMARY/RESPONSE TO COMMENTS The Fire Prevention and Building Safety Commission (commission) requested public comment from September 3, 2025, through October 3, 2025. The comments received and the commission's responses to the comments are summarized as follows: Darren Reaman, CEDIA (Association for Smart Home Professionals) Comment: CEDIA encourages the Fire Prevention and Building Safety Commission (Commission) to move forward by adopting the 2023 edition of the National Electrical Code with the Indiana Electrical Code. They agree that there is a continued need for the rule but is encouraging the Commission to adopt the 2023 edition of the National Electrical Code to continue not only protecting the life, health, and safety of the public, but also to have a supportive regulatory frame for electrical and limited-energy system utilized by Hoosiers in their homes and businesses. Response: The Commission is currently in the final stages of adopting a new Indiana Electrical Code, which incorporates the 2023 National Electrical Code (NEC). In order to ensure continuity and avoid any lapse in coverage, it is necessary to readopt the 2008 NEC/2009 Indiana Electrical Code. Doing so maintains the current regulatory framework while the review and adoption of a new Indiana Electrical Code is ongoing.
