The effect would be to revise the shad aggregate recreational and commercial bag limits, which currently include American shad, Alabama shad, and hickory shad, and to make American shad catch-and-release only.
Summary
This proposed rule would prohibit the recreational and commercial harvest and possession of American shad in Florida, as well as the sale and exchange of the species from Florida waters. This would also remove American shad from the shad aggregate bag limit. The remaining shad aggregate bag limit would be 10 Alabama shad or hickory shad, in any combination of the two species.
