The Department of State Revenue (department) is soliciting public comment on amending rules at 45 IAC 16 concerning motor carriers. The department seeks comment on the affected citations listed and any other provisions of Title 45 that may be affected by this rulemaking. The rules provide guidance for motor carriers regarding insurance, safety, and permitting authority requirements for intrastate carriers of persons and household goods, as well as interstate carriers engaged in those intrastate operations. The rules also provide filing requirements of tariffs and schedules for common and contract carriers. The rules provide guidance for taxpayers and provide benefits to businesses and the department by minimizing the scope of disputes. Finally, the rules provide guidance on hearings before the department on the above matters, which have been greatly simplified to comport with recent statutory changes.
