The Indiana State Board of Animal Health (BOAH) is soliciting comments on amending and repealing rules at 345 IAC 2-4.5 and 345 IAC 2-7 concerning interstate movement of farmed cervids, chronic wasting disease (CWD), surveillance for CWD on hunting preserves, and removing provisions relating to brucellosis in cervidae. CITATIONS AFFECTED: 345 IAC 2-4.5-6; 345 IAC 2-4.5-7; 345 IAC 2-7-1; 345 IAC 2-7-2.4; 345 IAC 2-7-3 The proposed rule will allow movement of cervids from states where CWD has been diagnosed if animals are moved: (1) to a shooting preserve and harvested before the end of the hunting season; (2) to another state for short-term exhibition and returning to Indiana; (3) directly to slaughter; or (4) for breeding if the animal has genetics indicating it may be resistant to CWD. The rule allows reindeer to move into the state if they originate from an area that is not known to be affected by CWD. The proposed rule will reduce the requirement to test animals harvested in hunting preserves. The proposed rule will require only animals that originated from herds that are not CWD certified in good standing to be tested. Executive Order 25-17 directs state agencies to work towards a 25% reduction in regulatory requirements by January 1, 2029. The proposed rule eliminates unnecessary provisions in furtherance of this goal. The implementation costs of the proposed rule are not expected to exceed the threshold set in IC 4-22-2-22.7(c)(6). For purposes of IC 4-22-2-28.1,...
