Plain-language change summary

The latest version of Bill SB 983 introduces a significant change by updating the terminology used to describe disabilities, replacing "mental retardation or physical defects" with "intellectual disability, physical disability or death." This change is important because it reflects a more contemporary understanding and respect for people with disabilities, promoting a language that is sensitive and inclusive. Additionally, the bill clarifies the definition of midwives, specifically recognizing "direct-entry midwives," which broadens the scope of midwifery practices in the state.
