The changes to SB 27 expand the New Mexico Housing Trust Fund Act to specifically include the preservation of housing alongside its original purpose of producing new housing. This means that the fund can now address both the creation of affordable homes and the maintenance of existing ones, which is crucial for keeping current residents in their neighborhoods. Additionally, it allows for program guidelines to be developed and enables funds to be allocated based on community needs, making it more responsive to local housing challenges. Overall, these updates aim to strengthen housing security for all New Mexicans.
